Debbie Lane - Director
Debbie Lane is the Director and a Certified Head teacher working in both the threes and fours programs. She lives in Canton with her husband Barry. Debbie has been with CCNS as a member of the staff since 2003. Prior to that, she ran her own home daycare in Canton for 12 years. Her son and husband are both alumni of CCNS. Debbie attended both Tunxis Community College and Northwestern Community College majoring in Early Childhood Education. She holds her CDA in Early Childhood Education.
Debbie has served on many community boards in Canton, volunteering on the Canton Community Health Fund, Canton Substance Free Students, Canton Youth Basketball and Canton Little League. She taught Religious Education classes at the First Congregational Church for 8 years. She organized and started the Farmington Valley Home Childcare Professionals organization. The group’s purpose was to support, mentor and assist childcare providers in their professional development.
Sherry Savino - 4's Teacher
Sherry is the teacher for the 4’s program and the pre-k. She lives in Canton with her husband Steve and 3 daughters, Isabel, Adriana and Alyssa. This summer she added a new puppy to the family. Sherry loves swimming, hiking or just spending time with her family. She enjoys helping out and being involved in school activities. Before staying home with her children, Sherry taught third grade in Newington for one year and kindergarten in Hartford for 7 years. Sherry graduated from Canton High School and has a degree in early childhood education from Central Connecticut State University. She has also taken graduate classes at Central and the University of California. She is looking forward to working in the classroom again. Sherry feels that preschool is an amazing time where so much learning and growing takes place. “Early childhood education has always been my passion. I’m so excited to be joining the CCNS family!”
Susan Markowitz - 3's Teacher
Susan has a long history with Canton Community Nursery School. Both of her children, Seth and Ally, are alumni of the school, as well as Susan served as the school's President. Prior to having children, Susan worked as a paralegal in Bloomfield and was an office manager for a real estate firm in West Hartford. She stayed home to raise her children, but five years ago she took a teaching position at the Mandell JCC Nursery School in Simsbury. She taught there until the school closed, this past year. Susan resides in Canton, with her husband David and their 2 golden retrievers and two cats. Her son attended the University of Miami and resides in Miami. Susan enjoys spending summers time at the beach, cooking and entertaining. Susan attended Asnuntuck Community College. Although her educational background is in business, she has found her passion in teaching preschool. She believes that early learning is critical for young children. Each child is unique and it is important to cater learning experiences that will fit each child's needs to enable them to grow to their fullest potential. Dana Carlo 3's and 4's Teacher
Dana is a Burlington resident and has been apart of our community for ust over a year. She energetic, has a positive attitude and patience. Mrs. Carlo has 12 years of teaching experience. Her interest in teaching began at an early age allowing her to dive right into an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education (K-6). As soon as she graduated she was hired as a First Grade teacher for the City of Waterbury. While teaching First Grade, she received her masters in Remedial Reading and Language Arts (Pre-K to 12). Teaching reading is one of her passions as well as one of her strengths. This led her to leave the classroom to become a Remedial Reading teacher for K-5 students. In this position, Dana worked with small groups implementing engaging hands on lessons. She was able to see enormous growth with her students adding another reason for her to love teaching. After teaching Reading for several years, Mrs. Carlo took a position as a Literacy Facilitator. This position allowed her to share her love of reading not only with her students, but with her fellow teachers as well. Her teaching career had to end when her Husband took a job outside of the U.S., where she traveled for two years. Now that she is back, being a stay at home mom with her three year old daughter, made her realize a Pre-K teacher position was her next step. Dana is excited to start this next chapter of her life with CCNS.
Nancy Iskra - Substitute
Nancy Iskra has been a Canton resident for 41 years. Upon receiving her degree in Education, she taught 5/6 grade in Hartford for 7 years. Both of her sons attended Canton
Community Nursery School. She had been a teacher at CCNS for 28 years, teaching in all 3 locations of the school (River Road, Masonic Hall - North Canton, Grange Hall - Canton Baptist
Church (present site) ) She also taught at Canton Junior High as a Reading Tutor for 4 years, taught Aerobic Exercise class 4 years, and has been involved in several community organizations. Her outside interests include spending as much time as possible with family, reading, time by the ocean, and of course her cats!!
She feels that each year is an exciting adventure filled with the fresh curiosity of the children and the zest of life they exhibit.
“I couldn't ask for a more rewarding career!” She believes that being closely involved with the whole family creates a unique and lasting bond, and as the children grow, many of their strongest friendships were formed at Canton Community Nursery School.
Jessica Chicoski - Substitute
Jessica holds a Masters Degree in Education and has CT certifications in teaching as well as counseling. She has worked numerous years in the early childhood setting from volunteering in her daughters class at CCNS, being a Preschool Teacher, an Assistant Director of a Daycare, and a Preschool Mental Health/Behavior Consultant for the state of MA and CT. Currently Jessica is a stay at home mom to her two daughters. She lives in New Hartford with her husband Ed, daughters Marlita and Evelyn, and their dog Caddis. As her daughters transition to full time school this year, Jessica is gradually making her way back into the early childhood education field.
Kim Sullivan- Substitute
Kim is a recent parent volunteer at CCNS and lives in Canton. Both of her children had the privilege of attending CCNS. Kim enjoyed serving as the Board President and on a variety of committees during the years that her children attended CCNS. Prior to staying home with her own children, Kim was a Kindergarten teacher for 14 years. She holds a current CT teaching license. Kim received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Hartford and her Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina. Kim is passionate about early childhood education and an advocate for best practice in education.
